The following are just a few of the recent community engagement projects and events in which UNC Charlotte students, faculty and staff have participated:

April 2008
UNC Charlotte “Giving Green” at Sixth Annual Playground Build

On April 23, five from UNC Charlotte participated in the Sixth Annual Playground Build Day at Devonshire Elementary School in Charlotte. Chancellor Phil Dubois; Lisa Lewis Dubois (pictured above); Judy Rose, Director of Athletics; Ashley Oster, Director of Community Affairs; and Mike Hummer, Executive Director of the Charlotte 49ers Athletic Foundation (pictured) joined Charlotte’s top business leaders, neighborhood and school volunteers in transforming an empty field into a playground at the school. Ninety-four percent of the student body at Devonshire Elementary receive free or reduced lunches and the school does not have the level of resources needed for some of the typical play activities many students enjoy. “It was a privilege for UNC Charlotte to join with other leaders in the community to get our hands dirty for one day for these students,” said Ashley Oster.

almost $11,000.
